ISO Lab

Accredited since March 2026

The international standard ISO 15189 specifies the requirements for quality and competence in medical laboratories.  At SLING ISO Lab, our team develops, validates, and maintains mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) workflows to meet this standard. We started with a multi-analyte panel of steroid hormones and are now expanding our portfolio to include the ‘forever chemicals’ PFAS and other analytes of market interest.

Using validated methods and trained staff under ISO 15189 ensures our services remain accurate and reliable. This long-term commitment to quality is essential for regulatory partners and healthcare stakeholders.

Steroid Hormones

SLING has been ISO accredited for a multi-analyte Steroid Hormones Panel.

Steroid hormones such as cortisol, testosterone, and oestradiol are essential regulators of metabolism, immune function, and reproductive health, underscoring the importance of their accurate measurement in clinical and research contexts. While immunoassay-based methods have long served as the foundation for hormone quantification, their reliance on antibody recognition can present challenges in specificity when structurally similar steroids are present, compromising results due to cross-reactivity. Mass spectrometry has emerged as a superior and highly specific approach, enabling the reliable identification and quantification of individual steroid hormones in complex biological matrices such as serum and plasma.

PFAS

PFAS (per-and polyfluoroalkyl substances) are persistent, bioaccumulative environmental contaminants distributed across environmental matrices and the food chain. They are emerging endocrine disruptors, associated with risk to human health such as obesity, liver damage, kidney damage, hypertension, and cancer. The International Agency for Research on Cancer has recently classified PFOA as carcinogenic to humans (Group 1) and PFOS as possibly carcinogenic to humans (Group 2B). SLING has been analysing PFAS for biomonitoring purposes; see below for related publications. SLING is now converting this Research Use Only (RUO) assay into an ISO-compliant assay ready for future adoption.
